Earth-sized planet has other similarities, astronomers say

A planet similar in size to Earth also has the similar proportions of iron and rock, according to two separate studies published in this week's Nature. The two teams of astronomers independently came to the same conclusion that Kepler-78b has about the same density as Earth, which leads them to believe it is also made primarily of iron and rock. Kepler-78b orbits too close to its host star, located in the Cygnus constellation, to support life, but the scientists hope that findings such as these help them move forward in their search for potentially habitable planets.
