Many older veterans without mental illness receive psychiatric drug Rx

Only 39% of U.S. veterans who received psychiatric drug prescriptions without being treated by mental health professionals had a formal diagnosis of mental illness, according to a study in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry. Antidepressants, sedatives and mood stabilizers were the most likely medications to be overprescribed, researchers found.
