The Joint Commission on Wednesday named 1,099 U.S. hospitals that made its Top Performer list for 2013, up from 620 in 2012. Three Johns Hopkins hospitals made the list for the first time, while the number of academic medical centers earning the status increased sixfold in the past two years. "More than ever, hospitals are concentrating on what counts," said Dr. Mark Chassin, president and CEO of the Joint Commission.
