NRA index dips in Sept. on slower traffic, lower confidence

Slower restaurant traffic and sales in September, along with a dip in consumer confidence heading into the government shutdown, led to the fourth consecutive decline in NRA's monthly Restaurant Performance Index. The index, which measures both current performance and restaurant operators' expectations for the next six months, revealed that 52% of operators plan to invest in equipment, expansion or remodeling in the next six months, despite being less optimistic about the economy.
