Memphis, Tenn.-area beefs up building code for new homes

Inspectors will enforce new building code standards for strengthening the walls of new homes starting today in Tennessee's Shelby County. The codes require home builders to provide details of how wall bracing meets code requirements when they submit construction plans. Compliance with the codes will add about 1.5% to the price of a new home.
