Retail marketing officers foresee greater holiday discounting

The chief marketing officers at 100 leading national retailers largely see an increased need for promotions and discounts this holiday season to overcome credit concerns, cited as the most critical issue impacting 2007 sales. The study, conducted by accounting and consulting services firm BDO Seidman LLP, also forecast a 5.03% increase in same-store sales, though the majority of CMOs are being cautious with sales and inventory purchase plans.
