AHRQ reports increasing rates of drug-related admissions

Hospitalizations due to adverse effects of prescription, over-the-counter and illegal drugs rose by 117% for people ages 45 to 64 and by 87% for those aged 85 and older from 1997 to 2008, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reported. "This report reveals a disturbing trend, and we need to find out more about why these admissions are increasing," AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy said.
