Effort funded by Facebook founder to fix schools in Newark, N.J., kicks off

The Newark, N.J., school district will spend about $1 million on outreach to community members and parents to solicit feedback on how to improve the struggling school system. The spending is part of a $100 million district-reform effort funded by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. "The money is important, certainly, but mobilizing the community is the key," said Leonard Pugliese, regional vice president of the American Federation of School Administrators.
