Rail-car demand swells from commodity and intermodal traffic

Increasing rail traffic because of demand for commodities and intermodal service has rejuvenated the market for freight cars. Delivery of rail cars is projected to increase to 32,800 cars in 2012 and expand annually to 59,000 units in 2015, according to a report by Economic Planning Associates. There is evidence of rising demand for coal cars, small-cube covered hoppers and intermodal platforms and cars.
