The best time to transplant trees is during autumn, when they have entered their dormancy, writes Steve Boehme, a nursery owner in Ohio. Trees will be able to withstand the change because their leaves have been shed. If roots are damaged, trees will have ample energy necessary for regrowing, Boehme notes.
