Rajat Gupta, the former McKinsey chief charged this week in the Galleon insider-trading case, was the original "global Indian," former colleagues say. His rise helped pave the way for PepsiCo's Indra Nooyi and Citigroup's Vikram Pandit, and it made him a role model for a generation of Indian executives. "He was one of those people who, despite having reached a very high level, used to carry his Indian-ness with a certain self-confidence," said Pramath Sinha, a former McKinsey partner.
