Study: UVB rays increase carcinoma risk in HPV-positive mice

A study of mice found that the expression of oncogenes E6 and E7 from cutaneous beta human papillomavirus 38 and exposure to ultraviolet B rays led to high rates of squamous cell carcinoma. Currently available HPV vaccines are not designed to work against nonmucosal cutaneous HPV, but the study findings could help researchers develop a vaccine that does work, senior author and World Health Organization researcher Massimo Tommasino said.
