The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Wausau, Wis., school district with a three-year grant of $1.7 million to help bolster physical-education and health programs. The funds will be used to write new curriculum for physical education, purchase equipment, train teachers and offer programs that switch the focus from team sports to individual activity skills and fitness in students.
