AAR: Carload, intermodal traffic rose for 3rd straight week

Freight carload volume and intermodal activity of U.S. railroads rose for the third consecutive week during the period ended Oct. 26, according to the Association of American Railroads. Rail carloads increased 3.6% for the week year-on-year, and intermodal climbed 3.2% for overall growth of 3.4% compared with the same week last year. Of the 10 carload categories, eight posted gains led by a 29.6% increase in grain products, while North American chemical shipments were up 4%, AAR noted.
