Budget deal should be in place by Nov. 22, appropriations leaders say

A deal on top-line spending for fiscal 2014 should be in place by Nov. 22, according to a letter written by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky., and Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md. Their letter urges conferees to have an agreement by that date, even though the panel has until Dec. 13 to draft a budget deal. This will help reduce the need for stopgap spending measures and closed-door deliberations on government appropriations, this article says.
