England's schools urged to focus more on core subjects

Schools in England reportedly will be encouraged to focus more on maths, spelling and grammar in an effort to improve the country's competitiveness in those subjects. The changes are part of an overhaul of core GCSE subjects that are reported to include a focus on ratio, proportion and rates of change in maths and greater weight given to accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar on exams.
