What school leaders can learn from the federal shutdown

The 16-day shutdown of the federal government provides several leadership lessons for educators, writes Fred Ende, assistant director of curriculum and instructional services at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES in New York. Among Ende's tips are to avoid becoming entrenched and instead be open to new ideas and experiences. He also suggests school leaders embrace doubt but not let it lead to inaction, and celebrate other ideas and voices, instead of censoring them.
