FAA pares down estimated airport needs

The FAA says airports will need an estimated $39.5 billion during the next five years to meet aviation needs, a $6.6 billion reduction from the agency's 2002 update of its National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems. The estimate only covers needs that are eligible for federal Airport Improvement Program grants, and doesn't include such improvements as parking garages, hangars and air cargo facilities.
