Study: Grapefruit juice, cholesterol drug mix potentially dangerous

Mixing grapefruit juice and certain cholesterol drugs can increase the risk for a potentially fatal form of muscle toxicity, according to a new study. Researchers say they have found that a chemical in grapefruit has the capacity to inactivate a liver enzyme that metabolizes the drug, thereby causing dangerously high levels of the medication to rise in the blood.
