Discrete math encourages pupils to think outside the box

Discrete math, now included among the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, can, through its puzzle-like problems set in real-world contexts, help students master new concepts and think creatively, writes Boston educator Linda Wiegenfeld. She says discrete math can be introduced at all grade levels, even to children who don't yet read fluently.
