Countries meet, support WHO patient safety initiative

Health leaders from the U.S., U.K., Canada, Germany, New Zealand and the Netherlands agreed to support the World Health Organization Action on Patient Safety Initiative, which aims to develop and standardize operating protocols to increase the safety of patients worldwide. The protocols include promoting management of concentrated injectable medicines, assuring medication accuracy at care transitions, improving communications when handing over patients to different care, assuring performance of the correct procedure at the correct body site, and promoting hygiene to reduce infections.
