Algae gains ground as renewable biofuel for military, industry

The development of algae as a renewable biofuel is gaining ground with support and investment from the federal government, the military and big oil companies. The Navy, for instance, recently tested a river patrol boat that was powered by algae biodiesel as part of its "Great Green Fleet" program, which has a goal of sailing by 2016 and operating with half of its fuel from renewable fuels by 2020.
