EU and U.S. officials will cooperate on derivatives regulation

Michel Barnier, internal-market commissioner for the EU, and Gary Gensler, chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, issued a joint statement after meeting with industry leaders saying that they vow to cooperate on tougher regulation of the over-the-counter derivatives market. Barnier and Gensler discussed trading limits, better ways to address abusive practices, issues related to high-frequency trading and other areas of policy.
