Study looks at bacteria's effect on ICU surgery patients

University of Texas scientists are studying the effects of mycoplasma pneumoniae, tiny bacteria that produce toxins, on surgical ICU patients, especially those on ventilators. The National Trauma Institute is giving grants to the UT Health Science Center and hospitals in Boston and Los Angeles to determine the prevalence of the problem and how it affects patient outcomes.
