TI takes a cautious approach to quad-core processors

Texas Instruments is concerned about the potential for performance problems in quad-core processors in smartphones and tablet computers, so it is focusing on dual-core, ARM-based processors for mobile devices, says Avner Goren, the company's general manager for OMAP strategy. While competitors, such as Nvidia and Qualcomm, are pressing ahead with quad-core processors for mobile electronics, TI wants to be sure there is market demand for those parts and that they will be thermally sound and software-compatible before proceeding, he added.
