Analysis: The x86 architecture is here to stay

The low-power processors derived from the processor cores of ARM Holdings are all the buzz, with even Advanced Micro Devices now committing itself to using ARM designs, Rick Merritt notes in this analysis. This leaves Intel as the last chip company wholly devoted to the x86 architecture, which has proved to be a dependable and profitable technology for the world's largest chipmaker, he adds.
