NYC Council race pits pro-gay Dem against gay Republican

Is Council District 4 candidate Patrick Murphy gay enough? Murphy's opponent, Democrat Dan Garodnick, said Murphy may be shading his gay advocacy to win over Republican households in the district. Murphy, who is endorsed by the Victory Fund, dismissed Garodnick's claims that he hasn't stood up to the Bush administration, saying a donation to a GOP fundraising dinner was intended to allow him to confront Karl Rove over the federal marriage amendment.
