Senate committee advances VoIP 911 bill

The Senate Commerce Committee yesterday approved a bill to require all VoIP providers to offer E911. The bill also seeks to mandate that phone companies open their networks to VoIP providers and would exempt VOIP companies and local dispatchers from liability under most circumstances. Separately, Nuvio filed a claim asking a federal court to push back the FCC's deadline for complying with E911 rules.
