PPG may start payments on asbestos settlement in 2007

PPG Industries may start paying the first half of an asbestos settlement in the first half of 2007. The company and at least 36 insurance firms agreed to a $2.7 billion settlement more than four years ago. PPG faces about 116,000 personal injury claims from people who came into contact with asbestos-laden pipe insulation manufactured by a PPG joint-venture company.
