Acer, Quanta announce higher Q3 profits

Bucking concerns about a global economic meltdown, Taiwanese computer manufacturers Acer and Quanta Computer reported higher third-quarter profit and issued bullish projections for the rest of the year. Acer, buoyed by sales of its AspireOne notebook computer, announced net income was up 2.7%; Quanta's profit rose 38% on foreign-exchange gains.
