Florida Legislature may expand gambling for pari-mutuels

The Florida Legislature may consider allowing expanded gambling at pari-mutuel tracks to compete with casinos run by the Seminole Tribe. The House committee on Seminole gambling met for the first time this week, and predicted the tribe's compact with Gov. Charlie Crist will not pass. Florida's gaming industry consists of eight tribal casinos, 27 pari-mutuel facilities and the state Lottery.
