Hawaii schools look to turn training days into class time

The 17 planned furlough days for Hawaii teachers have led 95 public schools to ask that teacher-training days be used for student instruction instead. The request must be approved by the state school board, and its chairman says, "Any request that adds instructional days back to the calendar will be looked upon favorably."
