Liver-related mortality is higher than previously thought

Liver diseases rank eighth, not 12th, among the leading causes of death in the U.S., researchers said. They found that when the definition of liver complications was expanded to include viral hepatitis, obesity-related fatty liver disease and hepatobiliary cancer, liver-related mortality would be 121% higher than previous estimates from the CDC.
