Expect more states to shift away from pensions, panel says

More states are likely to move away from traditional pension plans for public employees and instead adopt 401(k)s and other defined-contribution plans, experts said during a conference. Among those on the panel was Michigan Treasurer Andy Dillon, who discussed his state's conversion to a 401(k) plan for all new hires and its hybrid pension-401(k) plan for newly hired public-school teachers.
