Expect more states to shift away from pensions, panel says

More states are likely to drop traditional pension plans for public employees in favor of 401(k)s and other defined-contribution plans, experts said at a conference. Among those on the panel was Michigan Treasurer Andy Dillon, who discussed his state's conversion to a 401(k) plan for all new hires, and its hybrid pension-401(k) plan for newly hired public-school teachers.
