More children are left unvaccinated against pneumonia

A study of children ages 59 months old and younger found that only 37% of children vaccinated with the 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine received the 13-valent supplemental dose. Among the children who should have received additional primary series doses, only 46% got the PCV13 series, the study in CDC's Morbidity & Mortality Weekly Report showed. Researchers said that "health care providers should recommend PCV13 vaccination for all eligible children aged 14 through 59 months during all visits."
