Report finds little financial benefit from school closures

School closures offer relatively little cost savings to districts, according to a new report by the Philadelphia Research Initiative. The report looked at closings in some urban districts ahead of a plan to close a selection of schools in Philadelphia. "The savings are under a million dollars per school," said Larry Eichel, program director for the group. "That's real money, but not money that changes anything fundamentally."
