Family and consumer sciences curriculum reinforces core academics

Students at a middle school in Florida are learning core academic subjects, such as math and science, by preparing meals. Students in the family and consumer sciences class not only learn math and science, but they also learn about the history and geography of ethnic foods. "The kids didn't realize that measuring (ingredients), or doubling or halving a recipe was math," teacher Jill Bopp said.
