A construction boom related to multibillion-dollar investments in oil and gas exploration is expected to create thousands of jobs in southwest Louisiana. For instance, Sasol North America plans to spend $25 billion for energy infrastructure such as natural gas facilities. Although a lack of skilled workers remains an issue, the state's public and private sectors should collaborate in taking advantage of these economic opportunities, said Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach.
