Study finds risk factors for rehospitalization after kidney transplant

In a study of 753 adults who underwent kidney transplantation, U.S. researchers found that weekend discharge was linked to a 65% higher risk of rehospitalization within 30 days. Longer initial stays in the hospital and longer transplant waiting times also were linked with higher rates of early rehospitalization. Blood clots and pain were the most common causes of unplanned rehospitalization, followed by organ rejection, according to the study in the American Journal of Transplantation.
