U.S. data expected to reveal weakening economy

Economists say U.S. data due this week will point to slower growth and a reduced pace of hiring. The figures are expected to reflect a flagging economy even before the recent partial government shutdown. "Job gains and wage gains remain weak. That's a challenge for consumer spending," said John Silvia, chief economist at Wells Fargo Securities in Charlotte, N.C.
