Lumpectomies in younger women may mean higher recurrence rate

Women under 40 who have a lumpectomy instead of a mastectomy have a somewhat higher risk of cancer recurrence, according to a recent study. Although lumpectomy should remain an option, researchers said women choosing the procedure have to be diligent about lifelong follow-up breast care.
