Study: Breastfeeding reduces rheumatoid arthritis risk in mothers

In addition to the many known benefits of breastfeeding, new research shows the practice can lower a woman's risk for rheumatoid arthritis. Women's hormone levels have long been linked with rheumatoid arthritis, and in an ongoing study following female nurses over three decades, researchers found women who breastfed had lower rates of the disease, compared to women who did not breastfeed, while irregular periods increased the risk for rheumatoid arthritis.
