Private equity now often seen as a liability

Private-equity firms are finding it more difficult to get backing from large institutional investors, and a number of large pension funds and endowments are trying to sell their private-equity investments to secondary-market buyers. "People have awakened to the fact that private equity can be a liability, not just an asset," said Andrew Rosenfield, chairman of Guggenheim Investment Advisors.
