Transportation center on track to become one of nation's greenest buildings

A new transportation center set to open in Tempe, Ariz., next month is being built to be one of the nation's most energy efficient buildings. The $25 million, three-story office and retail complex, which will also be a transit station for light-rail and buses, will include energy efficient features such as a green roof, self-shading masonry to reduce solar-heat gain, recycled building products used in construction and movable screens to protect the building from the sun during the hottest times of the day.
