Travel agencies survive, thrive by finding their niche

For decades, travel agents' business centered on booking airline flights. While statistics from ASTA show that half of all airline reservations in the U.S. continue to be made by agents, most have discovered or developed their own niche to deal with the loss of airline commissions. They focus on parts of the travel industry -- cruise lines, for example -- where expertise in understanding the fine points of a contract is extremely valuable.
