UN: We are doing our utmost to protect Congolese

UN officials dismissed aid agency reports that MONUC peacekeepers in the eastern Congo have failed to protect thousands of civilians from violence. "We are doing our utmost," said Alain Le Roy, head of UN peacekeeping, which has 17,000 troops in the nation where fighting has left thousands without shelter, food, water or medical care.
