Court: Retired workers don't qualify for total disability benefits

A state law that allows insurance firms in Montana to stop providing permanent total disability benefits to workers who receive Social Security retirement insurance is constitutional, according to a ruling by the state's Supreme Court. The high court voted 5-2 that workers' compensation benefits apply only to the "work life" and not to the retirement years of permanently and totally disabled employees.
