Army declares war on energy inefficiency

The Army is launching a campaign against energy inefficiency at all new military buildings in the U.S. and abroad. From 2013 onward, all new construction carried out by the Army will comply with green standards, featuring efficiency-boosting measures such as stormwater management systems, cool roofs, solar water-heating systems and smart meters. Initial analysis suggests that the move will create energy savings of about 45% compared to current Army construction policies.
