Small-business hiring remains slow, data show

Fewer small businesses added jobs in October, according to the National Federation of Independent Business survey. About 10% of member firms hired an average of 4.5 employees, down from 13% in September. And the jobs picture doesn't look to get any better as 13% of members said they plan to cut jobs over the next three months, while only 8% expect to add workers.
